The Artists’ Plan

Charting a New Course: Steering the Torpedo Factory Art Center Toward a Sustainable Future

The Torpedo Factory Artists’ Association (TFAA) released a detailed plan for the Torpedo Factory Art Center that presents a compelling vision for a sustainable future. Originally released in September 2016, the TFAA updated and rereleased their business plan in January 2018.

The TFAA has been leading the creation of that structure by capitalizing on 43 years of experience in building an active and engaged community, within our walls and beyond. The TFAA’s plan maintains the important focus on working artists, open studios while strengthening the connection between artists, visitors, and the Alexandria community. The details put forward in this plan seek to maximize the visitor experience and the opportunities for artists to innovate and grow their businesses.

The City of Alexandria is committed to the Torpedo Factory Art Center, which will continue to be a major draw for visitors from all over the world and a cornerstone to the local creative economy. To that end, the City has been managing the building in a temporary capacity to afford adequate time to create a well-thought out governance structure.
