I am a watercolorist with a passion for figures and portraits. I also paint animals, particularly dogs, and occasional florals or still lifes. I usually work from photographs, which allow me to capture a specific gesture or expression, and I work in thin layers of watercolor, varying colors to create depth and interest. I enjoy trying different techniques, including painting on textured papers.
Deborah Conn has had a lifelong interest in drawing and painting, but no formal training until the late 1990s. She attended classes at the Art League School year 'round for more than 15 years as well as traveling to art workshops by nationally known painters. She continues to work with the watercolor portraitist Ted Nuttall, who has been a major influence on her work. Deborah teaches watercolor in her home studio and has held workshops in paper marbling and watercolor monotypes as well.
